A Dedication to my Father
"my teacher ... my epitome of compassion..."
I heard the chair story from my Dad who was a United Methodist Minster for almost 50 years. He was instrumental in helping me with the wording of the story and the message about the chair. It was his idea to put “Be Still and Know” on the box as well as on the little chair. He fostered me through many up and downs during this project, reminding me that this little chair’s message is bigger than anything I have ever tried to do.
He knew my motivation behind the chair project because for years he watched me try to save the world or at least talk about all the things I would do to make the world a better place. He was my teacher; he was the epitome of compassion.
My Father told me a version of the chair story in December of ’07 when my father in law was dying of bone cancer. He saw the final product while he was unexpectedly in the hospital on November 7, 2008. I sent a chair to him and my sister Amy read him the story in the hospital. He told my sister “It is complete, it has come full circle; She has made the chair idea a reality.”
My Dad passed away November 8, 2008 just one day after he blessed my chair project. I believe that he himself reached out to God to take that heavenly walk home.
I would like to dedicate this web site to my Father, Rev. Charles E. Goodin a good and faithful servant that has helped others everyday and in every way for the last 50 years of his ministerial life.
As we mourn the loss of our Father we find great comfort when we look at our chairs and remember that all we have to do is Be Still and Know………that their hearts are truly being heard.
